There are four key aspects to designing your very own custom LED license plate: Prefecture, Vehicle Class number, Hiragana, and then your Custom License Plate Number. Read below to learn about the four different customization sections.
Selecting Your License Plate Prefecture
Your Japanese license plate prefecture signifies the area your vehicle is registered to. If you're in the United States, think of this similar to the state found on your license plate. We have over 100 unique prefecture options to select from. If we're missing a prefecture you'd prefer just contact us and we'll do our bests to get it added to the list for you.
What is the Vehicle Class Number on Japanese License Plates
A Japanese license plate can tell you a lot of information about the vehicle it's for. One of these useful details comes from the vehicle class number. These numbers can be anything from a single digit to three digits depending on how long the vehicle has been registered. With single digit class numbers being the rarest and typically found on the oldest JDM cars. Two digits are also fairly rare since there are only so many combinations. With three digit vehicle class numbers being the most common.
As stated earlier and as the name would suggest, the vehicle class number signifies what type of vehicle the license plate is for. With the most common being the 300 and 500 vehicle classes. The 300 vehicle class numbers are found on most standard commuter cars with a max capacity of 10 people. While the 500 license plate class number set is used commonly for kei or other small compact cars.
For your custom LED license plate you can select any combination of three digits you'd like. Whether its something traditional (300, 303, 500, 501), something silly (000, 69, 420, 666), or anything in between the choice is fully yours to make. Giving you 900 unique license plate vehicle class numbers to choose from.
JDM License Plate Hiragana Characters
After selecting your prefecture and entering in your vehicle class number it's time to pick your license plate hiragana character. You can think of hiragana similar to letters in the alphabet with each symbol representing a specific sound. These are the characters found to the left of the license plate number on the bottom of the Japanese license plate.
Traditionally specific hiragana characters are reserved for specific vehicle classifications, but we allow you to make your very own selection. Giving you over 40 different hiragana characters to choose from including the "Y" which is commonly found on Japanese license plates registered to US military members.
The Most Important Part: Your License Plate Number
While we call this a license plate number or "Custom Number", in reality we give you the option to enter whatever alphanumeric character you'd like. Meaning that you can enter lower case letters, capital letters, numbers, placeholder dots (•), or dashes. The only limitation is that you cannot exceed 6 characters due to the limited space on the LED license plate.
Similar to what we said in regards to the license plate vehicle class number you can go with something more traditional like: "64-58" or "•8 46" for your license plate number. You could make it specific to your own car: "•2 JZ" or "13BREW". The possibilities are endless, just make sure you type in exactly what you'd like your custom license plate number to be.
